Most celebrities decide at some point to start their own business outside of the field that made them famous. And while some may wait to retire from acting or singing in order to found a business, other prefer to invest their money much before.
In the end, having another source of constant revenue and using your own fame to market the business, really doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all. In fact, most people would probably do the same if they were that rich and famous. But who are the celebrities that own successful brands? Let’s find out.
1. Jessica Alba – The Honest Co.
The famous actress founded The Honest Co. in order to provide people with more natural products for children. After becoming a mother she became completely aware of all the harmful chemicals found in baby and family products.
That’s why she created this brand that offers a wide range of products: from premium diapers to body lotions. Jessica is the visionary leader of this brand and she guides the overall strategy, creative marketing and product innovation for Honest.
2. Ryan Reynolds – Aviation Gin
Following the trend of celebrities to have their own liquor brand, the “Deadpool” actor decided to enter the same market. Namely, Ryan Reynolds owns the major percentage of Aviation Gin.
He’s also the familiar face for the brand and he represents the company on all marketing materials, including social media and billboards. He stated of the gin: “I’ve tried every gin on the planet and Aviation is, hands down, the best. Also, I don’t recommend trying every gin on the planet. Stick with this one.”
3. Drake – Virginia Black Decadent American Whiskey
It seems another star followed the spirits trend, and it’s no one other than Toronto’s most famous rapper: Drake. He cofounded Virginia Black Decadent American Whisky in 2016.
But this is not the only brand Drake is involved in. He has also his own record label, OVO Sound, as well as its own apparel line.
4. George Clooney – Casamigos Tequila
Clooney cofounded the Casamigos Tequile with two friends of his, restaurant mogul Rande Gerber and Discovery Land Company CEO Mike Meldman in 2013. However, the brand was sold to Diageo for $700 million.
But the actor also had a reason for creating this smooth-tasting tequila. While spending their time at home (Cabo, Mexico), Clooney and Gerber came up with the idea to create a tequila that won’t lead to hangover. Despite being sold to Diageo, the brand still says the original founders are still involved in the production press.
5. Beyonce – 22 Days Nutrition
Beyonce stands behind the 22 Days Nutrition, a brand she cofounded with her trainer and life coach Marco Borges. The company is based on vegan products such as protein bars, powders and nutrition guides and it also offers a vegan meal delivery service.
The concept behind the company is that it takes 21 days to break a habit, and start eating plant-based meals and ditching the meat. This nutrition plan is often called “The Beyonce Diet”.
6. Mark Wahlberg – Wahlburgers
Mark Wahlberg founded a gourmet burger chain called Wahlburgers alongside with his brothers Donnie and Paul. The company is based in Boston, their hometown.
Although Donnie and Mark are known for singing and acting, their brother Paul has actually been in the restaurant industry for quite a while. The chain is slowly expanding and has now over 30 restaurants in 7 different states.
7. Ryan Gosling – Tagine Restaurant
We’re still staying on the dining side with Ryan Gosling’s Moroccan Restaurant called Tagine. He opened it in 2004 alongside his friend and head chef of the restaurant, Ben, and his co-worker Chris Angulo.
It seems that the food in this restaurant in Beverly Hills is something Gosling claims to be “the food he wants to eat for the rest of his life”. Is Ben’s cooking that good? We’ll have to check for ourselves!
8. Maria Sharapova – Sugarpova
This might be the weirdest brand choice for an successful and talented tennis player, but it seems that Maria Sharapova was really passionate about founding her company Sugarpova. Sugarpova launched a line of premium gummy candies, but that’s not all.
Since Sharapova claims to have a sweet tooth, she didn’t want to stop on candy only. So she decided that they will also launch a line of Sugarpova Premium Chocolates. Additionally, the brand also sells apparel.
9. Drew Barrymore – FLOWER Beauty
Connecting makeup brands with celebrities isn’t a rare thing. But, ever since Kylie Jenner made a huge success with Kylie Cosmetics, it seems that more and more celebs have been creating their own beauty lines very quickly.
So, Drew Barrymore created FLOWER Beauty which she launched exclusively with Walmart. The brand turned out to be a huge success too and it was soon spread to other big retailers too.
10. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt – Miraval Rose
While Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt didn’t work out as a couple, they produced the award-winning Château Miraval rosé wine and continued to sell it even after their divorce.
The couple bought Château Miraval in Provence in 2008, where they eventually got married in 2014. However, it was rumoured that Pitt was more involved in the production process than Jolie.
11. Jay Z – Armand de Brignac Champagne
Another big star that has it’s own stake of liquors. The famous music producer and rapper Jay Z is the owner of a brand of champagne called Armand de Brignac. It is also known as “Ace of Spades” and it is produced by the Cattier Champagne house in the town of Chigny-les-Roses.
He acquired the champagne brand from Sovereign Brands. The champagne comes in metallic metal bottles that have a logo of a deck of cards embossed in it. A bottle of Armand de Brignac is sold at the price of $300 each.
12. Drew Barrymore – Barrymore Wines
It seems that Drew Barrymore is really following all the celebrity business trends out there. Not only does she own the makeup brand, but she has also co-founded Barrymore Wines alongside Carmel Road winemaker Kris Kato.
On the brand’s website, Barrymore said: “I am passionate about wine. There is so much to discover and experience and my travels help me do that.”
13. P. Diddy – Ciroc Vodka
P Diddy might be the first of the celebrities to have started a business in the spirits field. He formed a deal with Diageo to develop a premium Ciroc Vodka for a 50/50 profit share.
This decision turned out to be very profitable, as the Ciroc Vodka made a huge success. In fact, it was one of the most sold brands of Diageo in the UK.
